Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT MAKES YOU A BETTER CANDIDATE FOR CITY COUNCIL?
I have been a Denton resident for over 14 years and Denton County resident for over 17 years.  I built my career in aviation at the Denton Enterprise Airport, where I worked for over a decade, while also balancing life as a single mom to four boys.  I am running for City Council Place 5 to bring focus of the Council back to the city and its residents.  We lneed a Council member focused on issues that City Council has authority to act upon and implement, solving local proglems with local solutions.

WHAT WILL BE YOUR PRIORITIES AS A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER?
I will work to see that First Responders are funded to meet staffing, training, and equipment needs.  Additionally, I will maintain high priority for street repair and new construction through general fund allocations and bond programs.  One of my high priorities is to defend and protect neighborhoods of Denton, ensuring their voices are heard.  They are the heart of our city!  And, I will re-energize economic development to promote wages at all levels that allour citiezens to thrive, not just survive.

As far as city growth, I want to make sure we are growing in a way that keeps Denton, Denton…the city we love, where we feel safe and want to raise our families. Our growth should preserve Denton’s unique spirit—a city of families, music, education, and art—without increasing taxes and our cost of living.

I will be working with other council members to see how we as city neighbors can helpfully address concerns regarding the needs of persons without homes.

WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO WANT TO SERVE NOW ON THE CITY COUNCIL?
I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to begin and build my aviation career in Denton.   As I was growing my passion for my career, I also grew in my love for the charm and hospitality Denton has to offer everyone.  It made me want to make Denton home for myself and my four boys.  Being a single mom has come with beautiful moments, triumphs, and challenges, most of which we have had here in Denton!  My love and memories here have created my passion to see Denton thrive, continue to grow, and be a place we proudly call home.

BIKE DENTON SURVEY

What is your vision for Denton’s transportation system?
Continue to provide safe, efficient and effective options while improving our multi-modal continuity.

Which transportation issues do you think are most important for Denton to prioritize over the next five years?
It is important to prioritize and increase in safety the number of bike lanes by reducing the difficulty of cyclist transportation while also working in harmony with DCTA to ensure that we are making the most of resources available with having the goal of moving as many people as possible.

Nationally, at least 30% of the general population cannot drive due to age, disability, finances or legal reasons. Do you feel that Denton’s current transportation system is adequate for people who cannot drive? Why or why not?
While there is always room for improvement, I feel Denton has worked hard in the interest of inclusivity and has proven to to be exceptional in providing multiple services and options including Rail and bus service, GoZone On-Demand, DCTA Lyft programs, Access ADA, Non-ADA, and senior Paratransit, A-Train Rail, Commuter Vanpool to people who are elderly, mobility challenge or have other special requirements.

Each year in the City of Denton, roughly 15 people are killed in traffic crashes. In 2019, the Denton City Council approved city staff to develop a Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate traffic fatalities. The multi-phase development of this action plan is still underway. If elected, will you support funding to continue development of this action plan and ultimately implement it?
✓ Yes

 Explain your answer.
I will always be in support of improving safety for our traveling public.

Currently, most bicycle projects in Denton are funded through larger road expansion projects, which often take a decade or more from start to finish. This results in free-standing segments of bicycle infrastructure that don’t connect to much else and don’t create a useful network. Do you think Denton should have separate funding for active transportation projects that aren’t tied to road projects in order to develop a usable bike network more quickly? Why or why not?
Our bicycle projects are important but each project should be evaluated on a case by case basis, with decisions made based on the most up to date information, financial analysis, maintaining fiscally responsibility while balancing the needs of our community.

Denton currently has an ordinance from the 1960’s that prohibits small mobility devices like skateboards, roller skates and scooters from operating on city roadways. This ordinance also bans these types of devices from on-street bike lanes since they are considered part of the roadway. Because many streets in Denton lack sidewalks, this means many Denton residents cannot legally travel around or leave their neighborhood via e-scooter, skateboard or roller skates. Given the increasing popularity of e-scooters as a more affordable, lower-impact way to get around town than driving an automobile, do you think this 1960’s ordinance needs to be updated to allow more options for traveling around Denton? Please explain.
I am absolutely in support of reevaluating ordinances periodically to explore and update what other options better meet the needs of our residents based on infrastructure changes to better support the growth of our community today.

Why should someone who cares about street safety or bicycle, pedestrian or public transit issues vote for you?
As someone that also cares and prioritizes pedestrian and public transit safety, being in the transportation industry myself, I have a better appreciation for the public’s safety in relation to mobility and multi-modal transportation.
